The Gorgon Project plans to develop the Greater Gorgon gas fields, located between 130km and 200km off the north-west coast of WA.

The project proposal includes:
  • Development of the Greater Gorgon gas fields involving subsea pipelines to Barrow Island

In 2008 the Gorgon Project made significant progress, including:

  • A$1 billion to undertake key activities leading into a Final Investment Decision (FID) on the Gorgon Project
  • Securing and investing in marine supply bases including an investment of up to A$100 million in a Dampier supply base
  • Two major framework agreements each worth hundreds of millions of dollars with Vetcogray for subsea equipment supply and services and Mitsui and Japan Steel Works for CRA clad carbon steel line pipe and bends
  • An increase in the Project team from around 600 to about 1,000.

With the Gorgon Project moving towards a Final Investment Decision (FID) there will be significant opportunities for Australian industry and employment. The Project is committed to providing full, fair and reasonable opportunity for Australian industry to supply goods and services and is working hard to realise local content opportunities for local contractors.

A focus area for the Project is ensuring that major contractors are able to procure goods and services from the Pilbara region, and one of the tools that major contractors (both Australian and overseas-based) will use is the ePilbara database.

To update the Pilbara supplier community on Project progress and supplier opportunities, the Gorgon Project will be holding an Industry Briefing.
